115 Windmill Wall Hanging Magnet Project
#115 – Windmill Magnet or Ornament
Clay Casting Project

An fun project for kids of all ages!

Materials Needed:

1 Rycraft cookie stamp or craft stamp #115 – Windmill
Clay* - we used Creative Paperlay® which air dries to a paintable pure white (no oven needed)
1 clay casting* - #115 – Windmill (see Basic Clay Casting Instructions)
1 2" round cookie cutter
Sandpaper or emery board (fine grit)
Acrylic primer (optional)
Acrylic clear varnish (optional)
Acrylic paints: dark blue, medium blue, metallic silver, pearlescent white, white
Tacky glue or hot glue
Optional: 1 magnet (from a craft store) or 1 piece jute string, fishing line, or ribbon 8" long (or longer if desired) for hanger

*Note:  Alternately, the casting for this project may be made from paper instead of clay (see Basic Paper Casting Instructions). The choice is yours.
Instructions:

1.  While clay is wet, cut out casting using cookie cutter. If you are going to make an ornament, use toothpick to poke a hole in the top (see How to Make a Hole). Let dry.
2.   Sand rough edges smooth.
3.  Optional: Apply primer and let dry.
4.  Apply white paint to background and let dry. Apply other colors to windmill separately, letting paint dry between colors so they won't run together. Use silver to highlight the 4 supports for the sails, and pearlescent white for the sails themselves.
5.  Optional:  Apply a coat of varnish for permanence. Note: Varnish will leave a more glossy finish.
5.  Use hot glue to attach magnet to back, or for ornament, attach hanger.

Shown below: Make 5 painted castings and attach to plaque
from craft store for a beautiful wall hanging.
