#102 – Viking Ship Magnet or Ornament
Clay Casting Project

Celebrate that special vacation to Scandinavia
or your viking heritage!

Materials Needed:

1 Rycraft cookie stamp or craft stamp #102 – Viking Ship
Clay* - we used Creative Paperlay® which air dries to a paintable pure white (no oven needed)
1 clay casting* - #102 – Viking Ship (see Basic Clay Casting Instructions)
1 2" round cookie cutter
Sandpaper or emery board (fine grit)
Acrylic primer (optional)
Acrylic clear varnish (optional)
Acrylic paints: red, 2 shades of brown, light gray, white, metallic gold
Tacky glue or hot glue
Optional: 1 magnet (from a craft store) or 1 piece jute string, fishing line, or ribbon 8" long (or longer if desired) for hanger

*Note:  Alternately, the casting for this project may be made from paper instead of clay (see Basic Paper Casting Instructions). The choice is yours.
Instructions:

1.  While clay is wet, cut out casting using cookie cutter. If you are going to make an ornament, use toothpick to poke a hole in the top (see How to Make a Hole). Let dry.
2.   Sand rough edges smooth.
3.  Optional: Apply primer and let dry.
4.  Apply each color of paint separately, letting paint dry between colors, so that colors won't run together. Paint casting as shown in photos.
5.  Optional:   Apply a coat of varnish for permanence. Note: Varnish will leave a more glossy finish.
5.  Use hot glue to attach magnet to back, or for ornament, attach hanger.

Use the same method to create 4 more castings and attach them to a plaque
from the craft store for a wonderful gift or momento.
